About

Full-time professional musician in Luxembourg: (how) does it work?

Is it possible to make a living from your music in Luxembourg? In this meeting we will address the realities and challenges that professional artists and musicians in Luxembourg face every day and we will highlight solutions and perspectives for those who have chosen to make a job out of their artistic vocation.

Speakers:

Fred Barreto

Born in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil, Fred Barreto picked up the electric guitar at the age of 17. Things went fast after this self-taught start: he began performing and recording as a sideman, playing with many different Blues and Rock artists from Brazil and the USA. In 2005, after having played at the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, Fred decided to stay in Europe. Three years later, he crashed into the Trier (Germany) / Luxembourg scene and soon became an integral part of the musical community. In 2009, he founded Fred Barreto Group.

Thomas Faber aka Maz

Maz mixes skillful rap with distorted screams and melodic hooks; creating a dark, yet hopeful form of expression. As he enters the stage, he ties audiences up into the limb of a giant marionette. A powerful collective beast that puts up a fight against social injustices and inspires one to accept their own darkness just as much as their light. This captivating live energy has earned him slots at iconic festivals such as Sziget or ESNS and the award for the best live performance at the Luxembourg Music Awards in 2022.

Nadja Prange

Nadja Prange is a musician and artist from Luxembourg who is currently based in Trier, Germany. She has a wide-ranging interest in key instruments, with a particular fondness for the organ. As a side-musician, she plays and sings for Fred Barreto Group, Le Vibe, Nicool, Porn Queen, Noisemakers, Nikki Ninja and freelances for various bands and projects. In 2020, she became an intermittent du spectacle and in 2022, she recorded her first album as solo artist « Nea Lone« .

Chris Reitz

In 2017 Chris followed his heart and became a full-time musician. He released his first record by the end of the same year and switched his focus on building a reputation as a performing artist, playing festivals, intimate shows and multidisciplinary art performances in Luxembourg and the Greater Region. The roots of All Reitz Reserved go back to the early 2010s, when he started performing improvised solo shows with his electric violin, a handful of effects, and a loop station. Chris is also a driving force of folk/new country outfit Zero Point Five.

Sven Sauber

Sven is a versatile session musician, guitarist, tutor, composer and arranger. Since 2015 he has made a name for himself as a reliable and versatile sideman for all kinds of projects and bands, playing with and for: The Grund Club Songwriters, Snoop’s Under- the-Roof Band, Lata Gouveia, Rozeen, Kid Colling, Marc Welter’s Joint Bunch, Sitta and many others. His first solo album « Another Day » was released in September 2020.

Serge Tonnar

Serge is an independent artist and activist, born in 1970 in Luxembourg. He produces albums and tours as a singer-songwriter, composes music for films and theatre plays, and occasionally works as a playwright, actor or director for the stage. He is the founder of the artists’ collective MASKéNADA, a production platform for alternative projects in the performing arts sector, and of the program for intercutural dialogue « Mir wëllen iech ons Heemecht weisen« . In the pandemic in 2020, he initiated the online programs for artists Live aus der Stuff and Kulturkanal.
